Join-up is the training technique used in our programme.

Join-Up was developed by Monty Roberts, the famous American horse trainer, it is the process used by the trainer to define his relationship with the horse. You become the leader by using proactive, participative communication techniques.

This method evolved from his experience observing wild mustang herds in the Nevada desert.

Here the lead horse educates each rebellious youngster by sending them out of the herd where it feels unsafe, alone and in danger. When the youngster shows signs of wanting to cooperate and acknowledge the authority of the lead horse it is allowed to re-enter the herd. In the Join-Up programme you take on the role of the lead horse. Each leader starts in a circular enclosure and begins by sending the horse away from him/her and then motivates the horse to trot around the limits of the pen.

When the horse starts to show signs of cooperation – this means that your authority has been accepted and acknowledged, and you invite the horse to approach you. This procedure defines the role of each participant in the team: man and horse
