Michael Peters founded Can Jou on the lines of a traditional stock farm in 1984. Horses were always part of daily life. In 1986 the rural hotel opened, and horses began to play more of an active role in the business with our modest beginnings in trail riding and early horse breeding programmes.

Trail riding has since developed and expanded into the adventure activity it is today. Can Jou presently runs 5 different week-long trail rides, which range from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean coast, with riders from all over the world. Can Jou is one of the leading European companies in this field.

Michael has studied the techniques of Monty Roberts and Klaus Hemphling, both masters in natural horsemanship, and he has used these techniques to train and teach his 40 trail- riding horses. This program of incentive training with horses which uses the techniques of natural horsemanship was developed through a lifetime of experience working with horses and observing their behaviour.

“The horse is the most perfect life-coach and spiritual guide that nature has to offer us.”
